User Guide / FAQ
Auto-DM campaigns enable users to activate an automated DM message when they use one of your active campaign hashtags in their comments on your posts, reels, DMs, stories, and IG lives..
Once a comment is detected, a Direct Message (DM) is sent to the commenter from your Instagram account, providing them with the hashtag they used and the pertinent URL.
The pool of DM messages exist to be used for all concurrent campaigns. The DM responses shouldn't be and are not meant to be specific to any one campaign. By creating a series of generic and welcoming messages it will free up the ability to add campaigns on the fly and the DM responses will be plug and play.
Your DMs should follow this simple structure:
Copy + Hashtag Placeholder (#HASHTAG) + Optional Copy + Lead in to the URL (but not the URL)
IMPORTANT: Do not add the URL at the end; our system will seamlessly take care of that for you.
Example DM Templates:
(The system will automatically add the URL at the close of this message.)
Note: It's crucial that your DM templates are designed to be generic, ensuring their applicability across all your campaigns. This adaptability ensures a consistent and smooth experience, regardless of the specific campaign a user engages with.
When someone comments (#Maillinglist or #episode23 for example) here is how their auto-DM will look:
You have the flexibility to create more than one DM template (see default example above). If you choose to add multiple templates, ensure that each template is separated by a single hard return.
By diligently following these steps, you'll be equipped to craft campaign DMs that are not only effective but also universally applicable.
Always consider running a test on your campaigns before a full launch to verify everything functions as expected.
Yes, it is highly recommended to keep the hashtag placeholder (#HASHTAG) in your auto-DM messaging.
The hashtag is what ties the DM back to the request. Users may make multiple requests from you and the hashtag is the way to keep all the messaging organized.
Stampede Social will add the URL to your DMs automatically.
When a user comments with a hashtag and the DM is sent Stampede Social will create a unique link to send via that DM.
You never should add a URL to your DM templates.
You can have as many as you'd like.
When entering separate them with a hard return. Do not leave any spaces between the DM copy (see default example in blog)
The DMs are rotated through. So if you have 5 templates as requests come in (from all sources) it will use the next one in the list until the list is exhausted and it will start back at the top.
The randomization is not per user or campaign.
Currently, all messages are used for all campaigns.
Our goal is to make setting up campaigns as easy as possible. Removing the need for flows and unique messaging allows you the user to set up a campaign in seconds and have it work across all the various input methods from Instagram (post/reel/IG live/stories/direct to DM)
Yes, our research has found users react to clear and concise messaging.
This led us to our current methodology of creating a generic messaging that becomes non-generic when a user makes a request and the relevant information fills in giving the appearance of a custom response.
Of course!
There are 2 dynamic pieces of each DM response template.
1. You put where the hashtag is dynamically inserted. You do this by adding in #HASHTAG (yes, it is case-sensitive)
2. We (Stampede Social) will add in the URL at the end. You don't have to worry at all about the DM ending up in the DM/DM message as we take care of that piece 100%. All you need to do is know it comes at the end.
Each DM response is tied to one Lasso campaign response. If you use #HASHTAG more than one time in a single response each instance will be replaced with the same hashtag.
