First 7 Steps when Onboarding with Stampede Social

Step 1:
To authorize your Instagram account it must be a business or creator account AND connected to a Facebook business page

  • If your account isn't a Business or Creator account yet, you can change it to one.
  • Create a Facebook page for your business and connect your IG account to that Facebook page. (directions)
  • NOTE: The person who authorizes Stampede Social to access your Instagram account must be an Admin for the Facebook Page your IG account is connected to. An Admin is a person who has special permission to manage the Facebook Page.

If your IG account was not set up this way when you tried to authenticate and you received an error, it's OK! Simply convert your IG account, make a FB page and connect the 2 and then click on the 'click to authenticate' button in the email you were sent and go through the authentication process again.

Step 2:
Authorize Stampede Social to your Instagram Account via Facebook

If you want to use Stampede Social with your Instagram account, you need to authorize it via Facebook first. If you did this during your original onboarding skip to step 3.

Here are the steps:

  • First, you need to subscribe to a Stampede Social Monthly or Annual Plan.
  • After you've subscribed, click on the "Authorization" button. If you purchased the plan but someone else will be managing your Stampede Social dashboard, you can forward the authorization email and directions to them.
  • Because Instagram is part of the Meta platform, when you connect your Instagram account to Stampede Social, you will need to be logged into your Facebook account.
  • You need to allow Stampede Social to access your Facebook account (don't worry; we can't see or do anything to your account.). Then select the Instagram Business or Creator account you want to use with Stampede Social (only select 1) and the Facebook Page that your Instagram account is linked to (only select 1 page).
  • You'll be asked what Stampede Social is allowed to do on your Facebook account. Please do not change any of these permissions or Stampede Social won't be able to connect to your Instagram account.
  • Once Stampede Social is authorized for Meta, you'll get a confirmation that you're now connected to Stampede Social.

Remember, if you're the admin of multiple Facebook Pages, only select one Instagram and one Facebook page to avoid errors.

Step 3:
Mandatory Instagram App Setting ("Allow access to messages")

Before you start sending automated DMs on Instagram, make sure you allow access to messages. If you did this during your original onboarding skip to step 4. THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE ANY AUTO DMS ARE SENT.

Depending on the version of your app you will find one of the flows below:

To do this:

  1. Open the Instagram app on your phone
  2. Click on the hamburger menu
  3. You may see a 'Setting and Privacy' option instead. If yes, click that
  4. Click on Message and story replies
  5. Click on Message controls
  6. Scroll to connected tools: Turn on 'Allow access to messages'

To do this:

  1. Open the Instagram app on your phone
  2. Click on the hamburger menu
  3. Tap on the "Settings" option
  4. Then tap on "Privacy"
  5. Next, tap on "Messages"
  6. Make sure the "Allow Access to Messages" toggle is turned on

If it was already turned on, you're good to go! If not, enable the toggle. This setting must remain turned on for Stampede Social to send automated DMs for your campaigns

Remember: You need to keep this setting turned on for Stampede Social to send automated DMs from your account to requesters.

Step 4:
Enter a default URL

Over time you will archive or delete campaigns but the URLs sent via DM will still exist. The default URL gives that URL a new home after a campaign has ended.

In most cases, the default URL will be your home page. Directions to set up your default URL are here

Step 5:
Set your default AI tone/theme

Stampede Social goes beyond conventional social media tools by harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to revolutionize your engagement with your audience.

The AI tone/theme helps you create responses to comments made to your posts and reels. Full directions here

Step 6:
Set your first Automated DM campaign

Getting content to your fans quickly and easily is one of the greatest features of Stampede Social.  Directions on setting up your first DM automation is here.

What is an automated DM campaign? An automated DM campaign gets your fans to your content in one-click.

  • Each auto-DM campaign contains: a hashtag trigger & a destination URL
  • It takes only 5 seconds to set up a auto-DM campaign and once set up will automatically send a DM when your fan: a) comments on a post or reel; b) comments during a IG live event; c) comments to a IG story; or d) send the hashtag directly to your DM

Onboarding Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What DMs does Stampede Social send on your behalf?

Stampede Social helps creators and brands send automated DM messages to their fans and customers on Instagram.

We only send messages that are related to the campaigns set up by the creator/brand in the Stampede Social dashboard. These DM messages have a specific format that includes the campaign hashtag and a link you designate in your campaign.

For Stampede Social to be able to send these messages on behalf of the creator/brand, the creator/brand needs to give permission. This is called authentication.

The creator/brand tells Instagram that they trust Stampede Social to send messages for them, and Instagram gives the Stampede Social app DM-sending capability.

Stampede Social cannot read or see your inbox, nor access your data.

  • Does my Instagram need to be a business or creator account?

Yes. Your Instagram account needs to be a business or creator account.

It's a simple process that can be done through the Instagram app:

    • Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
    • Tap on the three horizontal lines (hamburger) in the top right corner, then select "Settings".
    • From there, choose "Account" and then tap on "Switch to Professional Account".
    • Pick a category that best describes your business, such as "Local Business" or "Personal Blog".
    • Choose "Business" and you're done! Your Instagram account is now a business account.
    • By switching to a business account, you'll have access to features such as Instagram Insights, which can help you track your account's performance and better understand your audience.

  • How do I connect my Instagram account to a Facebook page?

To link your Instagram Business or Creator account to a Facebook page, you may first need to upgrade to an Instagram professional account. Once you've done that, make sure that you are the administrator of the Facebook Page you want to link to.

To connect your Instagram account to your Facebook Page, follow these steps:

    • Go to your new Facebook Page and click on "Manage."
    • From the left menu, select "Professional dashboard" and then click on "Linked accounts."
    • To link your Instagram account, click on "Connect account" and enter your Instagram account's username and password. Then click "Log in."

  • Can I disconnect my Instagram from my Facebook page after connecting them?

     Unfortunately, no.

Once you connect your Instagram to your Facebook page, you must keep your Instagram as a Business account and leave it connected to your Facebook page.

If you make any changes to this connection, it will break your connection with Stampede Social and any other third-party apps.

    This includes a password change.

If you need help reconnecting, please see "Reconnecting Instagram" in our HELP Center. Please note that you may lose all incoming data until your connection is reauthorized.
