How to set up Instagram DM Automation
Every campaign type, integration and tracking setup, explained step by step. Start with whatever you are trying to do.
Instagram DM automation is a simple trade. Someone comments a word you chose, and they get your link in their DMs a few seconds later. No link in bio, no "check my profile", no fan scrolling past the one thing they actually wanted.
The trade works because they asked. They read your caption, typed your keyword on purpose, and the DM is the answer to a question they just raised. That is why comment to DM converts the way it does, and why it does not feel like spam when it is set up properly.
Where it works
On Instagram, a keyword can be triggered from a feed post, a reel, a story, a Live, or a DM sent straight to you. On Facebook it works from story comments and Messenger. On YouTube the same campaign posts a public comment reply carrying your link, so every viewer reading the comments can click it rather than just the person who asked.
There is more than one kind of campaign
Most guides treat DM automation as one thing. It is not, and picking the right type is most of the work:
- A standard keyword campaign sends one fixed link. This is the one you want for a launch, a lead magnet, or a single product.
- A caption-linked campaign reads the link out of the caption of whichever post the fan commented on, so one keyword can run across everything you publish.
- A feed-powered campaign points at your RSS and always sends whatever you published most recently. Podcasters and newsletter writers use one permanent keyword and never touch it again.
- A live campaign keeps one keyword across every Instagram Live and carries whatever you are selling that night.
And every click comes back to you
The part that makes any of this worth measuring: every link sent by DM is tracked, so you can see which post, which reel and which keyword actually moved people. Not a follower count. The specific piece of content that made someone act.
